QuantOffice Navigator

The Navigator serves as the starting point for QuantOffice, where you can manage system components, such as installing, updating, and removing them. It also offers access to all system applications, user settings, and the trading environment configuration, streamlining the management and operation of the platform.

Silent Installation

By default, if you run the QuantOffice installation file manually, all application files will be installed in a dedicated folder in Program Files. To choose a custom installation location, you can launch the QuantOffice installer in a silent mode in the command line console.

Parameters

These parameters can be specified in the command:

Default folder

Installation for all users (administrative mode)

In this case, QuantOffice Navigator will be installed into C:\Program Files\QuantOffice Navigator. Navigator configuration files and software distributions files will be stored under C:\ProgramData\QuantOfficeInstaller.

  • Command template: {PATH_TO_INSTALLER.exe} /S /allusers
  • Command example: C:\Users\%User_Name%\Downloads\QuantOfficeInstaller-5.12.17.exe /S /allusers
Installation for a single (current) user

In this case, QuantOffice Navigator will be installed into C:\Users\%User_Name%\AppData\Local\Programs\QuantOffice Navigator. Navigator configuration files and software distributions files will be stored under C:\Users\%User_Name%\AppData\Local\Programs\QuantOffice Navigator.

  • Command template: {PATH_TO_INSTALLER.exe} /S /currentuser
  • Command example: C:\Users\%User_Name%\Downloads\QuantOfficeInstaller-5.12.17.exe /S /currentuser

Custom folder

Installation for all users (administrative mode)

In this case, QuantOffice Navigator will be installed into "{custom_folder_path}". Navigator configuration files and software distributions files will be stored under C:\Users\%User_Name%\AppData\Local\QuantOfficeInstaller.

  • Command template: {PATH_TO_INSTALLER.exe} /S /allusers /D="{custom_folder_path}"
  • Command example: C:\QuantOfficeInstaller-5.12.17.exe /S /allusers /D="{custom_folder_path}"
Installation for a single (current) user

In this case, QuantOffice Navigator will be installed into "{custom_folder_path}". Navigator configuration files and software distributions files will be stored under C:\Users\%User_Name%\AppData\Local\QuantOfficeInstaller.

Installation Modes

You can choose a mode in which you want to install system components:

  • Online - select to download and install all the components via internet. In this case you will need a license key and an internet connection to the license server. View the online resources requirements.

  • Offline - select to install all system components from the local source. Contact support to get a source data file for this type of installation. In the QuantOffice Licensing section you can learn about the offline installation procedure.

    Once you switch toggle to Offline, you will be prompted to choose the data source:

Launch

To launch Navigator, download and run QuantOffice installer.

The Main screen is what you see when you launch Navigator. There are four tabs on the Main screen: Available, Installed, Homes and Cloud Servers.

Available

In the Available tab, you can view all server and client components that are available for you to install. In this tab, you can also view Deltix News with the latest product builds and access the system documentation.

Update QuantOffice Installer

Click Available update link in the right section to download the latest updates.

QuantServer

QuantServer is an integrated environment for the development and back-testing of trading strategies and live-trading. You can install it both on Linux and Windows machines. Windows installations is currently supported only for local machines and Linux only for cloud installations. In case of Windows setups, QuantServer is installed automatically together with QuantOffice Studio and TimeBase Tools.

QuantOffice Studio

QuantOffice Studio can be installed on Windows machines and includes QuantOffice Studio and Trading Console desktop applications. In case of Windows setups, QuantServer is installed automatically together with QuantOffice Studio and TimeBase Tools. It can be installed without local QuantServer component and connect to remote servers. On Linux machines, clients are installed together with the QuantServer component.

Install

  1. Click Install to open a window with installation parameters.
  2. Leave the default or enter an Installation name and pick the version in the dropdown list.
  3. Enter your credentials.
  4. Provide your QuantOffice license key.
  5. Select the destination folder in the Installation path.
  6. Click Install.

TimeBase Tools

TimeBase Tools can be installed on Windows machines and includes a desktop application for TimeBase.

Install

  1. Click Install to open a window with installation parameters.
  2. Leave the default or enter an Installation name and pick the version in the dropdown list.
  3. Provide your QuantOffice license key.
  4. Select the destination folder in the Installation path.
  5. Click Install.

Installed

In the Installed tab, you can find QuantServer and QuantOffice Studio components that you have installed for Windows.

QuantServer

For any of the installed QuantServer components, you can view the local installation folder and a version of the component.

In the component menu, you can access the following resources:

  • QuantOffice - click to open a QuantOffice Studio application.
  • Trading Console - click to open a Trading Console application.
  • Options menu:
    • Update - if there is an update available, click to install it. This button is disabled if there are no updates available for the selected component.
    • Reinstall - click to reinstall the selected server.
    • Remove - click to remove the selected component from the list.
  • Linked Homes - you can view all Homes this component is a part of and navigate to them.
tip

In Homes, you can create specific configurations for various QuantServer components that you have installed.

QuantOffice Studio

For QuantOffice Studio components, you can view the local installation folder and a version of the component.

In the component menu, you can access the following resources:

  • QuantOffice - click to open a QuantOffice Studio application.
  • Trading Console - click to open a Trading Console application.
  • Options menu:
    • Update - if there is an update available, click to install it. This button is disabled if there are no updates available for the selected component.
    • Reinstall - click to reinstall the selected server.
    • Remove - click to remove the selected component from the list.

TimeBase Tools

For TimeBase Tools components, you can view the local installation folder and a version of the component.

In the component menu, you can access the following resources:

  • TimeBase Admin - click to open the TimeBase Administrator desktop application.
  • Options menu:
    • Reinstall - click to reinstall the selected server.
    • Remove - click to remove the selected component from the list.

Homes

We call Home, a specific configuration for QuantServer on Windows.

In the Homes tab, you can create Homes for a specific QuantServer that you have installed. Each Home is created for a particular QuantServer component, and you can create multiple Homes for the same server component, allowing flexibility and customization in managing various trading settings and scenarios:

Important

To run multiple Homes simultaneously, make sure the components in each of them run on different ports.

In the Home panel, you can access the following resources:

  • Click Open to navigate to the screen with all the components that you have installed in this Home.
  • QuantOffice - click to open a QuantOffice Studio application.
  • Trading Console - click to open a Trading Console application.
  • In the Options menu, you can find links to
    • Switch build version: you can select another QuantServer for this Home.
    • Services: in this menu, you can select the components you want to run and specify their local or remote settings. Note - running components have a green indicator on the Home panel. Refer to All services.
    • Settings: in this menu, you can specify how you want to run specific components (locally or from a remote location) and provide corresponding configurations. Refer to Application Settings.
    • Reinstall: in this menu, you can reinstall the existing Home - refer to the previous section.
    • Remove: use to remove the selected Home from the list of Homes.

Create Home

Initially, the Homes tab can be empty. In this case, you can create new Homes.

Click Add home to invoke the Add Home form. In this form, you can either select an existing Home or create a new one. For an existing Home, switch the toggle and select the installation path. For a new Home, specify these parameters:

  • Installation name:
    • Enter the name for the new Home.
    • Select a QuantServer component from the drop-down list for which you want to create Home. Note: Every Home is created for a specific QuantServer component that you have installed. Several Homes can be created for the same QuantServer component.
  • Installation path - specify the local installation path.
  • Advanced - in this section, in the Features tab, you can select components you want to install and run from a local or a remote source. Refer to Application Settings.

Components

Click Open for any Home component to invoke this screen. Here you can view and manage all applications of the selected Home.

Component Menu

  • Click Open on any component to navigate to the application UI.
  • Click Menu icon to access the menu of each component:
    • Start - click to launch the selected component.
    • Stop - click to stop the selected component.
    • Click Start in cmd to launch the application in a console. This can be useful if you want to view console messages.
tip

For TimeBase, you can import data from another instance using Import Data button in the component menu.

Background services have a status icon which turns green when the service is ON:

It is recommended to start all the available services to enable a complete set of back-testing and live trading features. For back-testing only, it is enough just to enable a TimeBase component.

  • Click Universe Configurator to access this application.
  • In the Options menu you can find the following commands:
    • Settings: click to access application settings.
    • User Management: click to access Keycloak Users Panel.
    • Account: click to access Keycloak Account Management Panel.
    • Services: click to access All services panel.
  • Click Back to list to return to the main Home tab.

Settings

In this menu, you can create a specific configuration for the selected Home.

Features

In the Features tab, you can configure components and specify how you want to run them (use a remote or a local source).

tip

You may notice, that you cannot create and save a random configuration of components. When you pick one, you are prompted to select some other components as well. For example, you cannot install a Strategy Server or Execution Server without installing TimeBase.

  • Choose NONE if you do not want to utilize the component.
  • Choose REMOTE if you want to run the component from a remote location. Click on the components to specify the parameters for the remote source.
  • Choose LOCAL if you want to configure and run the component locally. Click on the components to specify local parameters.
  • Load Exchange specific security metadata - when enabled, a specific metadata is loaded from the exchange for each trading instrument. This functionality is used by smart order routing algorithm on crypto setups.
  • Enable Access Control - click to enable user access control.

Applications

If you have it enabled in the Features tab, the component settings can be selected in the side menu. Here you can configure settings specific for each component.

tip

Make sure you define Price Streams for Strategy Server and Execution Server to work properly. In Strategy Server, this TimeBase stream is used by the Pricing Service. In Execution Server - to execute orders.

Important

To run multiple Homes simultaneously, make sure the components in each of them run on different ports.

Services

In this menu, you can Start and Stop all services at once or one by one and also access their logs.

tip

It is recommended to start all the available services to enable a complete set of back-testing and live trading features.

You can start all services in a command line console if you want to view console messages. Use Start All in CMD to do that.

caution

If you want to start services one by one, it is crucial to maintain the order:

  1. TimeBase
  2. Aggregator
  3. Execution Server
  4. Strategy Server
  • Start Universe Configurator when TimeBase and Aggregator are running.
  • Start Risk Manager when Execution Server is running.

Cloud Servers

In this tab, you can configure QuantServers for Linux.

Add Existing Server

Click Add existing server to connect to the available pre-configured QuantServer components.

In the server panel, you can access the following resources:

  • By clicking, Open on a selected Cloud Server, you can navigate to the screen with all the components that you have installed in this Cloud Server.
  • QuantOffice - click to open a QuantOffice Studio application.
  • Trading Console - click to open a Trading Console application.
  • In the Options menu, you can find links to
    • Services: in this menu, you can select the components you want to run and specify their local or remote settings. Note - running components have a green indicator on the Home panel. Refer to All services to view a similar functionality for Windows installations.
    • Settings: in this menu, you can specify how you want to run specific components (locally or from a remote location) and provide corresponding configurations. Refer to Application Settings to view a similar functionality for Windows installations.
    • Reinstall: in this menu, you can reinstall the existing Cloud Server.
    • Remove: use to remove the selected Cloud Server from the list and there is an option to remove it from the server as well.
    • Grafana: click to navigate to Grafana dashboard where you can monitor the system. Refer to System Monitoring to learn more.
    • Graylog: click to navigate to Graylog Admin. Refer to Logs to learn more.
